Melbourne Cup Carnival 2011 - Emirates Stakes Day

The last day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, Emirates Stakes Day

Known as 'Family Day' the day featured family friendly attractions with a Jumping Castle, Emirates Family Fashions on the Field and Channel Seven Stars were on hand to sign autographs to adoring fans. The weather was turned up for the last day of the carnival, going up to as high as 30 degrees.

The Birdcage was relaxed and quiet with guests enjoying the refreshing air con and shelter inside. The Swisse Marquee managed to generate lines, even without Kim Kardashian's anticipated appearance. Though they did have a cut out of the reality star... I guess that helped?

At the Fruche Marquee guests sipped on cold cocktails, champagne and Fruche flavours galore. With Miss J back home, DJ Kate Jean kept the fun alive in the Marquee.

This is my last Melbourne Cup Carnival 2011 post! It was a great experience getting to go to the races, experiencing new things, meeting new people and working out new ways to wear formal wear. I hope you've enjoyed all my posts, be sure to check the others out.

A big thanks to Miss J Alexander and Fruche for the opportunity! If you haven't already checkout Fruche's Facebook page for more shots from the carnival.

Melbourne Cup Carnival 2011 - Crown Oaks Day

Day 3 of my Races experience, Crown Oaks Day

The weather was a tad chilly, but that didn't stop ladies wearing bright looks to the races today. There was fascinator overload, the most I've seen! Florals, feathers you name it, it was there. I managed to catch the Myer Fashions on the Field Milliners Award. Stepping up from last year's competition, over 50 talented designers entered.

Designs varied from Florals, Bows to clear abstract pieces. Colour was a definite theme with Reds and Blues being a popular choice. My favourite design came from Hannah Pearce, with her large orange piece.

Rebecca Share won the competition with her red and navy piece. The creation featured a floating hat with red florals. Louis MacDonald and Mandy Murphy came second and third respectively.

In the Birdcage at the Fruche Marquee guests were treated to a range of  tasty Fruche inspired recipes, colourful candy and cocktails while DJ Kate Jean kept the vibe up with her fresh tunes (be sure to check our her FAB blog kisforkatejean.blogspot.com). Though the weather was overcast, the Fruche Marquee managed to bring the fun and light to the event. Just take a look at my shots below!

Fruche's Miss J Alexander was looking fabulous in a black and silver look, sporting a Richard Nylon creation. Love love loving his exaggerated sleeves. Miss J's black and silver flowers put my little black flower tie to shame, though our matching florals were BAM amazing!

Now can we all take a look at Miss J's shoes!
They are Louis Vuitton Sequined Butterfly Richelieu, from their Spring/Summer 2010 Menswear Collection
I have major shoe envy!
Tres amazing no?

Melbourne Cup Carnival 2011 - The Melbourne Cup

Day 2 of my Races experience, and today it's the Big one.

Crowds flocked to Flemington Racecourse on Tuesday with large crowds, bigger than Derby Day. The weather may of been overcast but the Myer's Fashions on the Field's Designs made up for it. With a strong and vibrant colour palette, designers presented their most innovative racing designs judged by designers Leona Edmiston, Yeojin BaeAnthony Capon and Phillip Tracey and fashion heavyweights Jackie Frank and  Edwina McCann. The competition was tight, with a range of finalists featuring pants, coat dresses, digital prints, texture and that all important fascinator.

The designs were shortlisted to a final 10, with some of the strongest designs below. My favourite was this nude and off white look by Grace Lillian Lee, the detailing and texture on the dress was BAM amazing. It's aesthetic reminded me of Dutch designer Iris van Herpen.

Tia Carrigan
from Queensland took home the award for her racing bouquet inspired dress. Project Runway Australia Season 3's Craig Braybrook was the runner up whilst Season 1 designer Helen Manuell came third.

Here is a shot of Carrigan accepting her win, with runner up Craig Braybrook and last year's winner Anthony Capon.

The excitement didn't stop with the fashion. At the Birdcage, with crowds of people were in and out of Marquees, socializing, drinking and most of all enjoying the races. Colour was definitely a strong trend this year, with ladies opting for bright colour blocking and prints.

The Fruche Marquee was a buzz, once again with colourful Cocktails and Fab food. Take a look below at some of my shots in the Fruche Marquee.

The fabulous Fruche face J Alexander looked BAM amazing in a grey and white look, pushing the dress code by sporting a pair of shorts. Love love loving the look!

Melbourne Cup Carnival 2011 - Derby Day

Here is my take of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, Derby Day

I haven't been to the races before so I was eager to see what's all the fuss is about.
A big thanks to Fruche for helping me to get access to the event!

Lovelies may I introduce you to The Birdcage
Tucked away from the racecourse, the Birdcage features lavish marquees by Fruche, Lavazza, Myer and Swisse to name a few. The marquees are tres chic, each with their own different look, guests and celebrities
Its such a pretty area so I'm going to give you a look into the Birdcage, soak it all in now Lovelies.

Say hello to the Fruche Marquee. Take a look below, the marquee is decked out in florals and bright candy coloured lollies and food. The marquee has projected race coverage, a DJ and FAB catering. Its such a posh and stylish way to view the races in style.
Fruche knows how to make a marquee looks BAM amazing.

The face of Fruche J Alexander (Miss J) was at the marquee, in a fabulous suit and bow tie look. In September J chose me as the Fruche Melbourne Fashion Week Blogger so it was great to finally meet him!
