MARTAN + I Like My Style Quarterly

I'm a member of ilikemystyle.net, which is like lookbook.nu only more underground and casual. Anywho, when I returned from my travels I was approached by a member of ilikemystyle.net to contribute to their quarterly fashion magazine. And I had to oblige.

I received my hard copy today!

I was paired up with another member Manuel from Meran Italy to discuss 'Dating: the differences and similarities between Meran and Melbourne'. So over a few chat conversations we discussed  the dating game, and it was really eye opening to discover the ways in which other people around the world date. Our conversation features in the magazine with other articles from other paired up members. Images of me feature in and before my article as well which I love love love!

I'm tres chuffed to be in a 300 paged magazine. It may not be Vogue or something readily published or found, but I'm a happy chap. It's pretty cool to see yourself in high glossy print... ahahaha

You can see my article on ilikemystyle.net as well as join or purchase a copy of the issue yourself!

Cate Blanchett - Harper's Bazaar AUS May 2011 Spread

Credit: Harper's Bazaar AUS

Here are shots from Cate Blanchett's Harper's Bazaar Australia May spread. Blanchett looks so good in these shots. I love love love that she's a naturally statuesque beauty, I don't really see too much Photoshop on her.

Blanchett wears Romance was Born throughout the spread shot by Will Davidson, making the clothes look really expensive in my book.

Longchamp Love

I bought this Lomgchamp Le Pilage Briefcase while I was in Lyon on my travels. Being on my wishlist, and heck being in France where the brand originates from I thought it was only suiting to get it. I'm kind of obsessed with bags, and now since I've been home just that little bit more.
The briefcase like all Le Pilage bags folds up and I love love love the dark purple colour, trying to shy away from black.

Style Diary - Savage? Pants...

I bought these printed pants from H&M on my big shop in London before Oktoberfest. Note I do have a cropped blazer in the same material and a pair of tights in that print but in electric blue. So it's safe to say I love love love this print. Its black and white, simple and gives off a 2010 McQueenish vibe. Currently I've generously loaned these pants to my Big Sis whom is in Sydney, so I am missing them. I just normally pair them with a simple black or white tee, nothing crazy I let the print speak for itself.

Masquerade?

Last night I went to a work awards night themed a Masquerade Ball. With that being said images of Gossip Girl and the like came into my head (not that it was like that) but heck I thought why not make something special for the event. So I gots myself some feathers, paint, a mask and my trusty glue gun out. Above were some of the random sketches in my diary I did while I was bored...

Follow the jump to see what and how my design turned out...

THE FEATHERED BLAZER

1.2.
I got my blazer and stitched on a pair of black shoulder pads. I did this just so that I had a base to glue my feathers on, as well as not ruin the blazer is something went wrong.
3.4.
On my rampant search for feathers I found this feather boa-likee lining, so with my glue gun I glued lines of the boa onto the shoulder pad as a foundation for the rest of my feathers.
5.6.
Once I did that I randomly glued an assortment of black feathers, to give a bit of wild texture to the shoulders.
7.

Wallah, my final touch was to add a few long blue feathers, just for a bit of colour. And my feathered blazer is complete.

The Mask

1.2.
I bought this full face mask from Spotlight. Though when I put it on... it just squashed my face. So me being me, I ended up cutting the forehead and the mouth off. When I thought of the mask I wanted something mysterious and slightly weird ahaha. Because the fit was weird I had to pad the eyes and the nose inside the mask so it sat better.
3.4.
Once I cut the mask I made paper triangle prisms and stuck them on the mask. Annoyingly enough I wanted to paint the mask black, however I didn't have any black paint... every colour in the rainbow BUT black. So I mixed them all to get this slate gray. I also added a texture paste and metallic iridescent to add dimension to mask.

5.
To finish the mask I put more of the metallic iridescent on the prisms so that looked like studs.

The Result

So yes I had a fun night out. Feathers out and all.

Style Diary - Y5L Summer Love

When I was over in Ireland I got to purchase so many different things which I can't at home. 5 Preview is one of them. Based in Europe I was over the moon when I finally bought myself a piece from their collections. I've already featured my 5 Preview Oversized Tee and my 55 Necklace so I thought I'd give some love love love to my Y5L singlet. A cute play on YSL, normally I hate prints but I have a soft spot for 5 Preview. I was happy that the weather at home has been pretty good recently with the sun shining I've worn the singlet countless times.

McScarfage.

Featuring on my Wishlist for a while I finally purchased the Alexander McQueen Skull Scarf. I bought it on my final day in London at Selfridges. As mentioned before, I bought the scarf for my 20th birthday present as well as just something pretty to have. I love love love the scarf, the design and that I've been waiting to buy it for ages I'm a very happy chap. Being a big fan of Alexander McQueen designs its a beginning of my collection of his designs past and present... I've already know what I want next!

LMFF - Ready To Wear Trunk Show 2011

My final show for the festival was the Ready to Wear Trunk Show presented by the City of Stonnington yesterday morning at the Malvern Town Hall. The best designers from the City of Stonnington showed off their collections including Cable Melbourne, Body by Dainy Sawatsky, John Cavill, Lisa Barron, Lisa Taranto and Not Your Daughter's Jeans. The Trunk Show also featured special guests including the Victorian Premier's daughters Martha and Eleanor as well as Miss World Alexandria Mills and first and second runner up Emma Wareus from Botswana and Adriana Vasini from Venezuela.

My favourite looks came from Lisa Baron and Lisa Taranto for her feminine and edgey silhouettes respecitvely, I also loved the jewelery featured in Not Your Daughter's Jeans. This show was a much more of a relaxed show than the others but still had great fashion and the town hall was so pretty and period. A good and yet sad end to the festival, as I don't want it to end! A special thanks to my Big Sis, my Fashion Fairy Godmother Jane and Krystal for her Camera for such a great week love love love them all!

LMFF - Menswear Runway 2011

Last night I got to attend the Menswear Runway for L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. Once again props go out to my big Sis and my Fashion Fairy Godmother for the great tickets.  I got to sit in one of the runway boxes getting a great view of the runway.  The Menswear show was sponsored by GQ and Specsavers as well as having special runway guest supermodel Helena Christensen. The show featured looks by Arthur Galan, Vanishing Elephant, Campaign, Alpha60, Autonomy, From Britten, Farage and Three Over One.

European trends were evident, screaming out London (I wish I was there). Rich and Neutral colours were everywhere loving the beige, camel and port. I love love love this Arthur Galan Jacket which like a reversed sheepskin like jacket (below). Helena walked within the show, looking stunning as ever a pretty big highlight of the night. After the show I got to grab a pic with LMFF face Melissa George who was looking tres intense as well as designer Alex Perry. And in all a great night!
